How I Cured My Asian Glow
What is the Asian Glow Disorder?
Asian glow, otherwise known as alcohol flush reaction or Asian flush is a genetic disorder most commonly experienced by people of Asian decent. This disorder causes facial swelling and flushing after drinking alcohol. Understandably, this can be a very embarrassing problem and can lead to sever self-confidence issues.
My Asian Glow Problem
I clearly remember the first time I experienced Asian glow. I was about 16 years of age and had told my mother that I would be going to a birthday party that was being totally supervised by the birthday child’s parents. In truth, the boy’s parent’s were actually out of town and it wasn’t his birthday, instead just a lot of teenagers doing what teenagers do when they aren’t supervised, that is – drink alcohol.
I arrived at the party with a few bottles of beer, absolutely oblivious to the unforgettable embarrassment that lay ahead. You see, I had no idea that I had Asian glow – i.e. the curse of not being able to enjoy the pleasures of drinking alcohol like everyone else without having to constantly worry about the possibility of having to deal with the social ramifications of an annoyingly unattractive red face reaction! Trust me, its no fun.
So I drank the beers while talking to a beautiful girl who was slightly older than myself. Not really paying attention to how quickly I was drinking I had unconsciously consumed the two beers int he space of about 20 minutes.
Nor much longer than 30 minutes had passed and my heart was racing, my head was throbbing, and my eyes were so bloodshot that I remember the girl who I was talking to starring at me very strangely and asking if I was feeling OK. I remember then walking into a room with about 20 people and having them all turn around and stare at me and my bright red swollen face, with one guy yelling out “he can’t handle his drink!”.
I distinctly remember walking into the bathroom wondering ‘what’s gotten into everyone?’ and looking up at the mirror and thinking ‘oh sh*t, what has happened to me?”.
Asian Glow My Beauty Nightmare
From then on every weekend would involve a battle between me and my Asian glow as I desperately tried to fit into youth culture by partying at bars. clubs, house parties, etc. But the problem was that they all had one thing in common: alcohol. They all involved the consumption of alcohol, and why not? People drink it because it makes it very easy to have a great night and meet a lot of new people – something that I always had a lot of trouble doing with a red swollen face and completely bloodshot eyes.
It was a two layered problem.. Firstly, the Asian glow caused my face to swell and become red around the eyes and cheeks. This make me appear a lot less attractive – I mean, its pretty much similar to a sever allergic reaction in the facial region. But secondly, the mere thought that I was experiencing Asian flush would be enough for my confidence levels to drop significantly and thus compound the problem.
I needed to find a solution, and I needed to find it fast.
How I Cured My Asian Glow
One of my friends had mentioned to me that I should try antacid medication before drinking alcohol to combat the Asian Glow. I tried this and it did not work at all.
I then became obsessed with reading about enzyme deficiencies, vitamin complexes, alcohol metabolisms, and a host of other key topics in order to educate myself to a point where I would be able to find the best cure for my Asian Glow.
After years of trial and error I finally found the perfect combination of supplements and the perfect way in which to take them in order to prevent my Asian glow from occurring each and every time I drank alcohol.
The key is: antacids by themselves are not sufficient to cure the Asian glow. This I know for sure from first hand experience. Something more is definitely needed that addresses the root cause of the Asian glow, that is, the enzyme deficiency. This is the only way in which we we can confidently drink alcohol just like everyone else without having to worry about the unattractive side effects of our Asian glow curse.
